Christmas Market of the Sister Cities

On the square just north of the Main Market Square, the Christmas Market of Nuremberg's Sister Cities adds some international flair. With a wide range of indigenous arts and crafts, stalls from Nuremberg's sister cities Antalya (Turkey), Atlanta (USA), Kharkiv (Ukraine), Gera (Thuringia), Glasgow (Scotland), Kavala (Greece), Krakow (Poland), Nice (France), Prague (Czech Republic), San Carlos (Nicaragua), Shenzhen (China), Skopje (Macedonia), Venice (Italy) and the French region of Limousin as well as the partner communities Bar (Montenegro), Brasov/Kronstadt (Rumania), Kalkudah (Sri Lanka), Klausen+Montan (Italy) und Verona (Italy) take visitors on a journey around the world.
The stall managed by the Department for International Relations invites you to taste the "Sister City Mulled Wine" or choose from a selection of Nuremberg books and Christmas goods. All proceeds of the sale will fund charity projects and institutions in the sister cities.
Market visitors may also support aid projects in Nuremberg's partner community of Kalkudah (Sri Lanka) which was destroyed by the devastating tsunami in 2004. The proceeds from the stall selling Sri Lankan arts and crafts and hot tea, will be used for financing the reconstruction of this fishing village.
For the city's efforts to promote union and understanding among the people of Europe, the City of Nuremberg and the Nuremberg citizens were presented with the „Golden Stars of Town Twinning“ of the European Commission in 2002 and 2007 with „The Europe Prize“, the highest award given by the Council of Europe to only one or two cities within the 47 member states per year.
